Bags is an architectural firm, based in Rome, funded by Sergio Bianchi and Elisabetta Straffi.
They both attended “Università degli Studi di Roma La Sapienza” during the 90’s.The studio is located in a loft on via Appia Antica that they restored in 1999. Their portfolio ranges from residential and working complexes to urban proposals for the city of Rome. In the field of urban planning Bags won a competition for the redesign of the civic square in Accumoli. The firm completed several projects including a residential complex in Bevagna, Perugia, the Innova laboratory complex in Rome, private residences in Antananarive, Madagascar and the Rainbow company headquarters in Loreto where the research is aimed towards the full potential of solar and geothermic energy as well as creating an inspiring environment for a cartoon company. Urban studies have been developed to incorporate new ways of building in the Arab countries. Residential work draws its inspiration in relationship with the surrounding environment such as in the case of a villa overlooking Mount Conero, completed in 2010. Over the years the firm competed in several architectural contests. In 2000 Bianchi won the “Una casa a Bellegra” competition . The house, built in the Roman countryside, close to Olevano, which was one of the most important spots for the “Grand Tour” during the nineteenth century, was to be the house for Nicola De Risi, the IN/ARCH secretary who worked with Bruno Zevi for more than 40 years. The house won the ALA Assoarchitetti Award of the Dedalo Minosse Prize in 2008. The house also won the best Customer Award during the “LoveArchitecture” event sponsored by the Rome Province, as well as the “Romarchitettura” prize and the Design Award at the Triennale of Architecture in Sofia, Bulgaria. The house was also part of the “Italy Now”exhibition during the Tokyo 2011 U.I.A:Congress.”.
